An Update on the Proposed Merger

Dear Beloved LWWC Members and Friends,

I pray that this letter finds each of you in good health and Spirit. Your love and support of LWWC is a blessing to me!

This past Sunday, February 18, 2024, I along with our Board of Elders met with Pastor Spencer Anderson and the Board of Elders of Southern Worship Center. The almost two-and a-half-hour meeting was a very positive and friendly encounter, characterized by openness and transparency. Pastor Anderson and I reviewed with everyone the story of how both of our churches arrived at this point, answered a variety of questions from the elders, and shared some personal stories as well. We are united in moving forward prayerfully and seeking God’s leading at each step.

During our discussion, we agreed that a joint Sabbath worship service, luncheon, and then a town hall-like meeting in the afternoon would be an appropriate first step. Towards that end, here is what we decided upon:

  • Sabbath, March 23, 2024 would be the date for the joint fellowship. It will take place at Southern Worship Center, 1500 E. Bardin Rd., Arlington, TX 76018.

  • Sabbath School will begin at 9:45am, followed by the worship service at 11:30am. I will be the speaker for the worship service.

  • Lunch will follow the worship service at the church.

  • Pastor Anderson and I will co-moderate a townhall-like discussion about the proposed merger after lunch in the church sanctuary.

Please know that this is just a basic outline for March 23. There are many more details that will have to be finalized in preparation for what we pray will be both an informative and inspirational encounter for all. I anticipate that we will be able to broadcast the worship service for our online viewers; however, I do not anticipate that we will broadcast the townhall meeting. Your continued prayers throughout our process of dialogue and planning is greatly needed and appreciated. I will update you with more details as we draw closer to March 23.

After our joint service with Southern Worship Center, I will convene a follow up meeting for our own members to dialogue and debrief the service. The date and place for this meeting will be announced within the next few weeks.

Lastly, construction delays continue at our former church building that will necessitate we continue worshipping at Fellowship Baptist Church throughout the month of March. I am pleased to announce that Fellowship Baptist Church has once again graciously accepted my invitation for this extension.

Thank you for your interest in this matter. Let us move forward together - on our knees!

Yours in pastoral love and service,

Marlon T. Perkins, Sr.
